A Phoenix couple was arrested recently and charged with multiple felonies for their alleged part in a child sex crime. The arrest stems from an alleged incident where the husband invited a young male into his home. Once the male was in his home, the man supposedly offered him money to play a game and engage in sexual activity. Additionally, the man is accused of displaying pornographic material to the child. The child left the home and informed his parents of the alleged incident, which eventually resulted in a search warrant being issued for the home.
A law enforcement investigation revealed another potential victim and led to the arrest of the couple. The wife, who reportedly witnessed the abuse on a number of occasions, was arrested for failing to report the abuse and protect the children.
Individuals who are charged with a sex crime face serious consequences if convicted. Being classified as a registered sex offender has far reaching implications and long-lasting consequences. These consequences will affect a person's future employment opportunities. Those associated with the individual charged can suffer as well, including family members and friends. The stigma associated with sexual crimes can be suffocating and passive participation, like the wife's supposed participation here, can result in criminal charges, fines and jail time as well.
All defendants are innocent until proven guilty. An experienced criminal defense attorney who is knowledgeable in the area of sex crimes can guide a defendant through the legal process and thoroughly address any weaknesses in the charges in order to protect the defendant's rights.
